The service is operated under Builders Brief Pty Ltd trading as Builders Brief and ProCalc, according to its terms.

Nathan has used ProCalc on several trial projects. The data entry was straightforward. It involved describing the job, answering practical questions, and entering a small number of basic take-off measurements.

The most useful output was not one supposedly correct figure. It was the low, medium, and high range. That range created a clearer conversation about project complexity, finishes, and client choices.

From a builder’s perspective, the report also provides an external reference point. A builder who gives one early figure can later be treated as having made a promise. However, the documents, site detail, and selections may still be changing.

A third-party range can help separate an early feasibility conversation from the builder’s later detailed estimate. It does not remove the builder’s responsibility to explain assumptions or price the work properly.

What the external evidence says

ProCalc’s builders page says the tool has been tested against many residential projects. It also reports a high proportion of estimates falling within the ProCalc range. However, those remain ProCalc claims.

The public material does not show enough method detail to verify the accuracy claim. For example, it does not show how older projects are weighted, retired, or adjusted for location and project type.

ProCalc’s terms also describe the report as preliminary and indicative. They exclude any guarantee of accuracy or reliability. Therefore, builders should not treat the report as an accurate pricing assessment on its own.

Public external evidence is limited. The Association of Professional Builders partner listing shows a five-star average from only two reviews and includes a referral reward. A public Reddit discussion also raises fair questions, but it is anecdotal.
